President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Nigeria’s new Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination, which has been formally transmitted to the Senate in line with constitutional requirements, follows the resignation of former minister Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, brings over 35 years of experience in fiscal policy, economic reform, and governance across both public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives focused on institutional transformation and regulatory reform.
He currently holds the position of Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), overseeing efforts to strengthen bilateral development cooperation between Nigeria and China, while coordinating stakeholder engagement to support economic and social development.
His professional background includes significant involvement in Nigeria’s power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms linked to agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
The presidency expressed confidence that Tegbe’s appointment will bolster ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investment, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
If confirmed, Tegbe is expected to play a key role in advancing critical reforms aimed at improving electricity supply and overall sector performance.
The statement was issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on April 30, 2026.
