Odumegwu-Ojukwu has been elevated to replace Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to focus on the 2027 Bauchi governorship race.
Sola Enikanolaiye has been named the new minister of state for foreign affairs. The announcement was made on Wednesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
Before her promotion, Odumegwu-Ojukwu held the position of minister of state for foreign affairs. Enikanolaiye, who hails from Kogi State, previously served as senior special assistant to the president on foreign affairs and international relations.
A seasoned diplomat, Enikanolaiye brings over 30 years of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service. His career includes serving as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with diplomatic assignments in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.
According to President Bola Tinubu, the appointments are intended to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, enhance operational efficiency, and expand the country’s global engagement. He also called on the appointees to prioritize national interests, promote economic diplomacy, support regional stability, and safeguard Nigerians living abroad.
The presidency emphasized that these changes form part of broader efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy for more effective strategic engagement and stronger international partnerships.
