The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians to be wary of a fake website falsely claiming that online voter registration is currently open.
In a statement issued Saturday, the commission said the website, pvc-inecnigeria-org.blogspot.com, is not genuine and wrongly claims that people can register between September 28 and October 27, 2026. INEC said the platform has no connection to the commission and urged Nigerians to avoid clicking the link or submitting any personal information on it.
“Members of the public are strongly advised not to click on the link or submit any personal information on the website, as doing so may expose them to the risk of having their sensitive personal data harvested or misused,” the commission said in a notice posted on X.
“The Commission further wishes to clarify that the voter registration exercise closed on 26th July 2026. Any information suggesting that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently ongoing through the above-mentioned website is false,” the statement continued. “INEC urges the public to remain vigilant and to verify all electoral information through the Commission’s official communication channels.”
According to INEC, the fraudulent website claims to offer a “Final Phase of Nationwide Online Voter Card Registration,” purporting to provide services such as updating voter registration details, transferring registration to another polling unit, and replacing damaged or lost Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), all advertised as free. The commission reiterated its call for Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify all electoral information strictly through its official communication channels.
