The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has appealed to Oyo State politicians to avoid violence as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.

The group expressed concern in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, after recent clashes between rival party supporters in Ibadan’s Molete area. It condemned the attacks and warned that continued unrest could endanger peace and security across the state.

CCII President-General Chief Ajeniyi Ajewole cautioned politicians against dragging the state back to a time of senseless killings and destruction. “We urge politicians not to return Ibadan and Oyo State at large to the era of wanton killings and destruction of lives and property,” he said.

He asked candidates and their supporters to show restraint and respect the rights of people who belong to other parties. In his view, campaigns should centre on real issues, with candidates laying out their manifestoes and explaining how they would meet the needs of residents.

Ajewole urged all candidates and parties to engage one another peacefully and to let voters make informed choices free of threats or intimidation. He also called on party leaders to caution their followers against inflammatory remarks and actions that could heighten tensions during the campaign season.

“Political ambition should not be pursued at the expense of the lives and property of the people,” he said, adding that safeguarding peace in Ibadan and Oyo State is a shared duty that everyone must uphold.
