The Federal Ministry of Education has published its final list of ranked and approved textbooks for Nigerian schools for the 2026-2028 period.

The announcement came in a statement on Monday from the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade. It follows the completion of the first phase of the national textbook ranking exercise, which covers Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1 and Senior Secondary School 1.

Every approved textbook now has its own Ranking/QR Tracking Code, listed with its title, author or authors, publisher and year of publication. According to the ministry, this will make books easier to identify and monitor and will strengthen accountability. It also said the system should improve transparency in how textbooks are chosen, bought and used in schools. The ministry said generating and assigning the codes added to the time needed to finalise and validate the lists.

The exercise was carried out under the leadership of the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad. Alausa gave final approval to the list.

Work on the second phase will begin next, covering Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2 and SS 2. The same identification and tracking measures will apply.

The ministry has asked publishers, schools, education authorities, procurement agencies and other stakeholders to consult the approved list when selecting and buying textbooks for the affected classes. It described the exercise as part of the federal government’s effort to give learners and teachers quality, relevant and curriculum-aligned materials while improving accountability in textbook provision. The full list, including each title’s tracking code, is available through a link provided by the ministry.
