ADC Dismisses Abstention Claims

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has moved to quell growing uncertainty about its future, firmly asserting it will field candidates in the 2027 general elections, even as prominent member Rabiu Kwankwaso publicly distanced himself from speculation about his political direction.

Party spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi described suggestions that the ADC would sit out the 2027 polls as “entirely unfounded,” saying the claims were designed to mislead the public and undermine the party’s growing support base. Speaking via X, Abdullahi said the ADC would present “credible, competent and nationally acceptable” candidates capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

The party positioned itself as the primary opposition force in the country, stating it was actively building structures nationwide, mobilising supporters, and preparing not merely to contest but to win. Abdullahi stressed that the ADC remained fully compliant with the constitution and the Electoral Act, and that no legal barrier existed to its participation in the next elections.

The ADC framed its mission as rescuing Nigeria from what it described as the failures of the ruling All Progressives Congress and preventing the country from drifting toward a one-party state. “We are not distracted by noise. We are focused on the real work,” Abdullahi said.
