Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman scored as Atletico Madrid beat Manchester United 2-0 at home in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, adding to the pressure on United manager Michael Carrick.
Pablo Barrios put the Spanish side ahead in the opening minute. Lookman came off the bench in the second half and sealed the win in the 79th minute, reacting first to a rebound to tap the ball in.
Match data shows United were reduced to ten men in the 74th minute, five minutes before Lookman’s goal.
The result was Atletico’s first win of this season’s Champions League campaign. It lifts Diego Simeone’s side to 13th in the league-phase standings.
For United, the defeat adds to a difficult start to Carrick’s tenure as permanent manager. The club has struggled to find its footing in the competition.
