The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, disclosed this on Tuesday at a press briefing in Ilorin, detailing the arrests and ongoing investigations.
In the first case, two suspects, identified as Abu Jimoh and Ayo Jimoh, were arrested over the alleged exhumation of graves and removal of human heads at a cemetery in Omupo, Kwara State.
According to the police, the incident came to light in May 2026 when residents visiting the cemetery to bury a deceased person discovered that some graves had been exhumed and the heads of bodies buried there were missing.
Adekimi said the two suspects were arrested at about 5 a.m. on October 8, 2026, while allegedly digging graves at the cemetery.
The commissioner said the suspects reportedly identified a herbalist, Mukaila Bello, as the alleged buyer of the missing human heads. The police briefing, however, did not establish whether Bello had been arrested.
In a separate case, police arrested Kamalden Lukmon and AbdulGaniyu Ibrahim at about 4 p.m. on October 8 along Bakase Road in Alapa, following the recovery of two suspected human hands.
The command said preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspects allegedly intended to use the body parts for money-making rituals.
The suspects reportedly told investigators that a vigilante member, identified as Abdulraf Apata, had handed the body parts to them. Police said the allegation against Apata was being investigated.
Investigators are also working to establish the identity of the possible victim and determine the circumstances surrounding the case.
The police said investigations into both incidents were continuing and that the suspects in the grave-desecration case would be arraigned after the investigation was concluded.
The suspects’ allegations and reported statements have not been established in court.
