Sharia Court Delays Ruling on ₦5.25m Marriage-Promise Claim Against TikToker

A Sharia Court in Jogana, Kano State, has put off its decision on whether it can hear a ₦5.25 million suit against TikTok personality Fatima Tabatul. The plaintiff, Muhammad Abdulkadir, wants the money back, saying he spent it on her after she promised to marry him and then didn’t go through with it. His claim is for ₦5,252,077.

The case came before Judge Kamalu Haruna Durumin Iya on Tuesday, 27 October 2026. Tabatul’s lawyer, Barrister Usman Umar Abdullahi, asked the court to throw the suit out, arguing that it has no legal authority to hear the matter.

Abdulkadir’s lawyer, Barrister Yasir Garba Mukhtar, opposed the application. He said the defence hadn’t given enough legal grounds to show the court lacked jurisdiction, and that the court is empowered to hear and decide the case.

After listening to both sides, the judge adjourned until 3 November 2026 to rule on the jurisdiction question. That ruling will decide whether the court goes on to hear the main suit. The court hasn’t made any finding on the ₦5,252,077 claim, and the allegations against the defendant remain unproven.
