By: Tunji Okunlola

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the killing of Islamic preacher Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka and his friend Adamu Abubakar in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State. He has told security agencies to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

The two men were reportedly shot dead by gunmen in a drive-by attack on Monday evening.

In a statement on Tuesday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu was deeply saddened by the news. He called the killings heinous and an attack on peace and the sanctity of human life.

Tinubu sent his condolences to the families of the victims, their followers, and the government and people of Katsina State. He also directed the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to act swiftly and step up the work already being done by the Katsina State Police Command, so that the killers are tracked down and arrested. He prayed for the repose of the two men’s souls and for strength for those mourning them.

The attack comes as Katsina State and other parts of the North-West continue to face armed groups responsible for killings, kidnappings and attacks on communities.

The statement gave no further details about the shooting and didn’t say whether anyone had been arrested.
