Nigerian Troops Rescue Two Kidnap Victims in Kwara State

Nigerian military forces have rescued two men from kidnappers in Kwara State, the army announced Saturday, as security operations against armed criminal groups intensify across the North Central region.

Troops of the Joint Task Force North Central, operating under Operation Savannah Shield, freed the victims during a clearance mission along the Gidan Dogo Ekaa axis on June 3. Soldiers on a routine fighting patrol encountered the two men after they escaped from their abductors.

The victims were identified as Temitope Samuel, 42, and Mohammed Sani, 40. Both were taken to Patrol Base Babanla, where they are receiving medical treatment and psychological support. Arrangements are underway to reunite them with their families.

The army said no further details were available regarding the kidnappers or whether any arrests were made during the operation.

Kidnapping for ransom remains one of Nigeria’s most persistent security challenges, particularly across the North Central and northwestern regions, where armed groups routinely target travellers, villagers, students and other civilians.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led operations under Operation Savannah Shield and called on members of the public to share credible information with security agencies to support efforts against criminal networks.
