Iheanacho Extends Record Scoring Run to 11 Straight Turkish League Matches

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has now scored in 11 consecutive Turkish league matches, after getting on the scoresheet in Bursaspor’s meeting with Pendikspor on Monday.

The Nigerian struck in the 62nd minute to make it 2-0 at the Atatürk Spor Kompleksi Matlı Stadium. Halil Akbunar had put Bursaspor ahead in the 10th minute.

The goal came four days after Iheanacho netted twice and set up another in a 3-0 win over Muğlaspor. That performance made him the first player to score in 10 successive matches in Turkish professional league football. The 30-year-old broke the old mark of nine, set by Galatasaray great Metin Oktay in 1962/63 and matched by former Turkey international Saffet Sancaklı at Kocaelispor in 1995/96.

Before the Pendikspor game, Bursaspor coach Mustafa Er spoke about the milestone, calling the record a tough one to beat and saying he hopes the striker can stretch the run further. He described Iheanacho as a happy player who has built strong friendships at the club and works extremely hard, according to Bursasporx.

Er cautioned, however, against treating the feat as a purely individual one, saying Iheanacho’s teammates and the club’s management deserve credit too. He also praised the club’s leadership for signing a Premier League-calibre player and handling his mental state well.

Iheanacho has been in superb form since moving to Bursaspor from Celtic, scoring regularly and emerging as a central figure in the club’s bid for promotion to the Turkish Super Lig. His latest goal underlines his value to the team and cements his place among the most prolific forwards in Turkish professional league football.
