Broda Shaggi Recounts Near-Death Experience After Being Hit by Stray Bullet

Nigerian comedian and actor Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has spoken about the moment a stray bullet hit him after a brand activation outing.

In an interview on his YouTube page, he said the incident happened on March 9, 2026. It began as an ordinary workday, and he and his team had finished the activation and were leaving the location when he heard a loud bang. The car fell completely silent, he said, and when he touched his hip and saw blood, he realised he had been shot.

He described the experience as frightening and said he lost consciousness before reaching the hospital. He said his only thought was to survive. His condition worsened to the point that medical staff considered moving him to another hospital, and he recalled sweating, holding his leg and wanting a doctor to tell him he would be fine.

At the second hospital, he said, the medical team acted quickly and took him to the emergency room. By then, he said, he felt calm and believed he would survive. Minutes later he found he could not move his leg, and he realised the incident could change everything. He also worried about how he would perform the physical routines tied to his comedy character, including his signature “Oya hit me” move.

The next morning, the pain had eased, but the emotional toll set in and he asked himself, “Why me?” He said he eventually found some meaning in it, seeing it as a forced break after working without rest since 2018.

Broda Shaggi later travelled to Dubai for surgery, after which he could walk and stand again. He said he is grateful it was not worse, but has not fully recovered. He still uses crutches for support, though he can now stand and walk without them for short periods, whereas for a time he could not put both feet on the ground without them. He described his situation as a new reality.
