Armed attackers swept through the Ngbra Zongo community in Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, in the dead of night Friday, slaughtering at least 13 people and wounding several others in a savage house-to-house assault.
Eyewitness Philip Alanga says the gunmen struck at midnight, opening fire before closing in with machetes. “They came into the community around midnight and started shooting and hacking people to death,” he told journalists in Jos. “They moved from one house to another, attacking innocent people.”
Residents fled into nearby bushes as the violence unfolded. Others were left injured, with urgent medical care needed.
Danjuma Auta, Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association, confirmed the killings, branding the attack barbaric and condemnable.
Plateau State has now recorded multiple deadly strikes in rapid succession and the bloodshed shows no sign of stopping.
