The family of Nollywood veteran Taiwo Hassan, better known by his stage name Ogogo, has unveiled plans to mark the remaining stages of his burial rites.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66. He was laid to rest in Ilaro, Ogun State, the following day, Monday, August 24, in line with Islamic tradition.
In a statement posted on Facebook by veteran actor Jide Kosoko, speaking on the family’s behalf, the eighth-day Fidau prayer will hold on Monday, August 31, also in Ilaro.
The family further announced that an Artists’ Day will be held in Ogogo’s honour 40 days after his burial, at the Pavilion Hall in Ilaro. Kosoko said the event will bring together actors, musicians, comedians, singers and other entertainers to celebrate the late actor’s life and career, with the programme coordinated by the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).
The family thanked Ogogo’s colleagues, friends, fans and well-wishers who turned out for his burial, and appealed to them to continue supporting the family and keeping the deceased in their prayers.
Ogogo launched his acting career in the early 1980s and went on to become one of the leading figures in Yoruba-language cinema, working as an actor, producer and filmmaker.
