A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has thrown out a lawsuit that sought to nullify Abubakar Malami, SAN’s emergence as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Kebbi State.
In a judgment delivered Tuesday, Justice M. G. Umar found that the plaintiff, Abdulrazak Isa Iko, could not show that he had taken part in the party’s primary election, and therefore had no legal standing to contest the process’s outcome.
On that basis, the court dismissed the case as lacking merit, leaving Malami’s candidacy intact ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.
Justice Umar noted that the right to challenge how a political party conducts or concludes its primaries is reserved for those who can demonstrate proper legal standing to do so.
With the ruling, one of the more significant legal threats to Malami’s candidacy has been cleared, leaving the ADC candidate free to press on with plans for the election.
