Airtel Africa has appointed Goriola Bakare, a Nigerian telecoms executive, as its home broadband experience lead. A statement issued on Tuesday said the appointment took effect on 1 October 2026.
In the role, Bakare will help set the group’s home broadband experience agenda. He will work with Airtel’s operating companies to win and keep customers, improve digital engagement and build commercial models for broadband that can scale. The company called the appointment another step in a career at Airtel that has included senior work in commercial strategy, product development, digital innovation and business performance.
Bakare was reportedly acting director of the home broadband business at Airtel Nigeria from October 2024 to March 2026. The telco said he was responsible for its commercial performance in that period, covering revenue growth, product strategy, customer acquisition and retention, customer lifecycle management and strategic partnerships. He also developed broadband products, looked for new commercial opportunities and pushed initiatives to strengthen Airtel Nigeria’s position in home connectivity.
Earlier, he was head of products at Airtel Nigeria, overseeing product strategy and innovation across voice, data and broadband. His other posts there include head of strategy, partnerships and commercial project management office, head of home broadband products, pricing and solutions, and manager of content and innovation. He joined Airtel in 2009 and has worked across finance, strategy, digital products and broadband management.
Before Airtel, Bakare worked at Skye Bank and Pacific Holdings. He holds a bachelor’s degree in banking and finance and an MBA in strategic management, both from Babcock University in Nigeria. He is also an alumnus of Airtel Africa’s inaugural India-Africa global accelerator programme.
