Nsukka communities face six-day power cuts for TCN maintenance

Customers in several communities in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State will lose electricity for part of each day for six days, while the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out maintenance at its Nsukka station.

MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) said the planned outage will run from Thursday, November 5, to Tuesday, November 10, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day.

MEDL’s Head of Communications, Emeka Eze, said TCN’s technical team will service equipment at the station. The work will affect the UNN, SUMAS and Orba 33kV feeders, cutting supply during the scheduled hours to customers connected to those lines.

Affected areas

The communities expected to be affected include Ukopi, Opi Agu, Eha-Alumona, Orba Town, Obollo-Afor, parts of Obollo-Eke, Enugu Ezike, Ibagwa, Nkalagu Obukpa, Okpaligbo, Iheaka, Edem Ani, Agbani, Uzo-Uwani, Obimo, Nkpologu, Lejja, Nguru, Aku and Ogbede, along with surrounding communities.

Other locations on the list are Odim Gate, Nkpor, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Nru, Ede Oballa, El Tabera Estate, Ikenga Estate, Wilson Company, Umakashi, Isiakpu, G.R.A. and Ogige Main Market.

Eze apologised for the inconvenience and appealed for patience, saying the maintenance is needed to improve the reliability and quality of supply.

Reduced supply elsewhere

In a separate notice, MainPower said supply had also dropped in other parts of its service area because of a fall in power generation, which led to low system frequency. It said this had prompted TCN to introduce load shedding to manage the available energy.

MEDL added that its reduced energy allocation had limited its ability to meet daily service-level commitments. It said it was monitoring the situation, sharing the available electricity across its network, and hoped normal supply would resume soon. It apologised to affected customers and thanked them for their patience.
