The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will inaugurate its National Campaign Council on Monday and make its statement of account public, as the party builds up to the 2027 general elections.

The party’s third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which begins at 10 a.m. at the JD Event Centre on Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja, includes both items on its agenda.

National Publicity Secretary Osa Director announced the plans in a statement dated October 23. He said the financial disclosure reflects the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability, and that the National Treasurer will present the accounts to the meeting.

The party also urged other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to open their finances to the same scrutiny. In the statement, it said it was “no longer politics as usual” for the NDC.

The statement also addressed the party’s finances. It claimed that about 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford the Expression of Interest forms, so the party gave them out free. It cited widespread poverty, hunger and deprivation, which it blamed on the policies of the APC-led federal government.

The National Campaign Council will coordinate campaigns for the presidency, National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly. The party also plans to present Certificates of Return to its candidates at the meeting.

Campaign councils typically coordinate candidates, mobilise supporters and carry party programmes to voters, and parties are now assembling such structures ahead of the polls.

The NDC said it wants to offer Nigerians what it called altruistic leadership, and it repeated its slogan: “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
