A Malian businesswoman based in Gabon, Oumou Sininta, has attracted widespread attention after videos from a lavish wedding involving 13 couples in Bamako, Mali, went viral on social media.
Sininta reportedly wore an elaborate gold jewellery ensemble weighing about 10 kilogrammes at the celebration, with the ornate pieces extending down the length of her boubou dress.
Although she attended the event as a guest, the jewellery drew considerable attention, with social media users expressing amazement at its reported weight and value.
Some reports have estimated the jewellery’s worth at two billion CFA francs. However, neither the reported weight nor the valuation has been independently verified.
The celebration, described in reports as the “World Wedding of the Diallo Family”, brought together 13 couples from the same family.
Reported Gold Jewellery Sparks Mixed Reactions
The images and videos of Sininta’s jewellery have generated mixed reactions online.
While some users marvelled at the size of the gold pieces, others questioned the display of wealth amid economic hardship and poverty in Mali.
One social media user jokingly compared the jewellery to heavy machinery chains, while another criticised the display of opulence, arguing that wealthy people should be more discreet about their fortunes.
Others defended Sininta, saying she had the right to enjoy her wealth and questioning why she was being criticised for her personal choices.
Another commenter expressed concern over the contrast between the reported extravagance of the celebration and the hardship faced by many families in the country.

Nigerian Makeup Artist Credits Work on Sininta’s Look
The viral attention has also drawn interest to the Nigerian professionals who contributed to the event.
Ibadan-based makeup artist Muraina Olusegun Seun, popularly known as Babyface, celebrated his work on Sininta’s appearance in social media posts.
In one post, he described her as being adorned in gold reportedly worth two billion CFA francs and credited himself with creating her look.
The jewellery’s valuation, however, remains unverified, as does a claim that Sininta is Mali’s wealthiest woman.
Reports also said Sininta gifted Malian singer Babani Koné 50 million CFA francs during her performance at the celebration. The reported gift has not been independently confirmed.
Nigerian Designer Styles 13 Couples for Wedding
Nigerian fashion designer Sleek Couture also revealed that she had been invited to style the 13 couples at the ceremony after receiving a message through Instagram.
The Ibadan-based designer described the assignment as an honour and an opportunity to showcase Nigerian fashion to an international audience.
She said the project reflected the reach of her brand and the recognition of Nigerian fashion professionals beyond the country’s borders.
The wedding has since attracted attention for its reported display of wealth, the gold jewellery worn by Sininta and the involvement of Nigerian beauty and fashion professionals in the celebration.
