Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, at about 11 am on Saturday, 48 hours after President Bola Tinubu ordered security agencies to rescue all abducted persons and leave no terrorist or bandit camp standing anywhere in Nigeria.
Shuaibu was received at the Maimalari cantonment headquarters of the Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai. It has not been established whether the trip is linked to the President’s directive. However, a correspondent learnt that he will hold meetings with theatre, field and unit commanders across the state.
The presidential directive
Defence Minister Christopher Musa said Tinubu gave the order to the heads of security agencies at a meeting he chaired at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The President also told the service chiefs and other security heads to ensure Nigerians can vote safely in the elections scheduled for January.
“The directive from the President is: all of us must go all out to fish out and rescue all those that have been abducted, kidnapped, wherever they are,” Musa said. He added that there should be no terrorist or bandit camp anywhere in the country.
More details are expected.
