Nigeria’s Super Falcons booked a place in the final round of African qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics on Tuesday, beating Comoros 5-0 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.
The second-leg win gave the 10-time African champions a 7-0 aggregate victory. They had taken a 2-0 lead from the first leg, which left Comoros with little chance of recovering.
The Falcons broke the deadlock in the 41st minute through Oyedupe Payne. They stepped up after the break, and Uchenna Kanu made it 2-0 in the 58th minute. Payne got her second six minutes later, and Kanu also scored twice, with her second coming in the 67th minute. Christy Ucheibe converted a penalty in the 71st minute to complete the scoring.
Nigeria will now face Morocco in the next round. The Falcons are chasing back-to-back Olympic appearances, having returned to the Games at Paris 2024 after a 16-year absence.
Africa has two places in the women’s football tournament at Los Angeles 2028, so Nigeria must still get past tougher opposition to qualify.
