Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to intensify efforts to curb the circulation of counterfeit and potentially harmful products in Nigeria.

Kadiri appealed in a video shared on her Instagram page, expressing concern about the safety of food, drinks, medicines, cosmetics and household products sold to Nigerians.

The actress alleged that some products consumed by Nigerians are poorly produced, contaminated or fake, warning that such products could pose serious risks to public health.

“Dear Nigerians, I’m speaking to you today with a heavy heart and deep concern about the circulation of fake products in our country,” she said.

“Every day, people buy food, drinks, medicine, cosmetics, and household products believing that they are safe, but sadly, some are poorly produced, contaminated, harmful, and mostly fake. This is not just a business problem; it’s a threat to human life.”

Kadiri also recounted an experience involving garlic she had purchased and blended.

“I bought garlic, blended it, and went downstairs to get something, only for me to return and see the garlic colour had changed,” she said.

She said the experience had increased her concerns about the safety of products available to consumers, particularly those bought for children.

“I’m literally afraid of buying already packed drinks for my kids because I am scared of what the outcome of that drink will be,” she said.

Kadiri urged NAFDAC to pay closer attention to the issue, saying many Nigerians were dealing with illnesses whose causes may not always be immediately apparent.

“NAFDAC, please pay attention to the lives of Nigerians. Lots and lots of people are sick and are not getting better,” she said.
