Armed bandits on Thursday attacked the Sabon Gari (Yilpo) community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one youth miner, injuring two others, and abducting another.

A youth leader in the community, Nandom Ishaku, who confirmed the incident on Friday, said a group of young miners were returning to the village after work when they were ambushed along the Aloghom–Yilpo–Mwansat College axis. One of them, identified as Kyenshak, was killed, two sustained gunshot injuries, and another was taken away by the attackers.

Ishaku described the incident as another tragic moment for the community, noting that the fate of the abducted victim remains unknown.

He also said the attack came days after a Fulani socio-cultural group, the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN), issued a statement accusing youths in Aloghom community of attacking herders and stealing cattle.

According to him, residents had alerted security operatives following the statement, warning of a possible attack, but said the concerns were not acted upon in time.

“We raised the alarm because this is often how such incidents begin, but unfortunately it was not taken seriously, and now we have lost a young man,” he said.
