Lagos APC Targets Three Million Votes Each for Presidential and Governorship Candidates in 2027

Musiliu Obanikoro, Director-General of the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, says the party is aiming for three million votes each for its presidential and governorship candidates in the 2027 general elections.

He spoke at a press briefing on Sunday, where he also announced that the party’s governorship candidate, Dr Kadri Hamzat, will unveil his manifesto on Friday, October 30, 2026.

The event is scheduled for 3 pm to 5 pm at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly the National Arts Theatre, in Iganmu, Lagos, and will be broadcast live on major television stations and digital media platforms. Obanikoro said the manifesto will be available for public download, and residents are invited to send feedback, comments and suggestions.

Describing Lagos as too important to be entrusted to an apprentice, he argued that Hamzat’s experience makes him the right choice for the job. He said the state has made significant progress but acknowledged that more work remains, tracing the foundation of its development agenda to President Bola Tinubu’s governorship bid in 1999. Hamzat, he said, would build on existing initiatives.

According to Obanikoro, the campaign is centred on sustaining shared progress, promoting inclusivity, strengthening Lagos and improving residents’ quality of life. He said Lagos belongs to everyone, while stressing the need to protect the interests of the state’s indigenous population, and added that differences should encourage cooperation rather than division.

He named healthcare, transportation and human capital development among the challenges facing the state, saying they demand experience.

“The future of Lagos is too important to be left to chance because the decisions we make today will determine the opportunities available to our children, the strength of our economy, and the quality of life of millions of people who call this state home,” he said.

“Lagos has made significant progress over the years, but we are not unaware that more work lies ahead. Our responsibility is to protect the gains we have made, address the challenges that remain, and build a state that offers greater opportunities to all.”

Obanikoro highlighted Hamzat’s background in the private sector and public service, including a PhD in Systems Process Engineering from Cranfield University, experience at financial institutions such as Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, and his tenure as Lagos State deputy governor.

He also praised the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat, citing the Blue and Red rail lines, road and bridge projects, improvements in schools and hospitals, developments in the culture and creative economy, housing projects, and support for businesses and young people. He said Hamzat would draw on his government experience to build on these projects and address outstanding challenges.
