NDC Dismisses Defectors to APC as “Bad Rubbish,” Alleges Bribery

The national leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed the defection of some of its members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the departures as good riddance and alleging that the affected candidates were bribed.

In a statement yesterday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the NDC was aware that some of its candidates had been induced by the APC to defect for financial reasons. He accused the ruling party of what he called desperate and malicious tactics, including offering money, political appointments and other material incentives to what he described as money-minded candidates.

The director said those who left lacked the values and ideological commitment of the party, adding that “they were never truly of us.” He wished them luck in their political ventures.

He said that, in line with the Electoral Act, 2026, the party would immediately hold fresh congresses to elect credible, competent and trustworthy candidates to replace the defectors in the affected constituency.

The NDC urged its members, supporters and other Nigerians not to be perturbed, describing the defections as the last kicks of a ruling party that sees imminent defeat. The party said it remained committed to its mission of rescuing the country from the “buccaneers in power” and delivering good governance, security and prosperity, under its slogan, “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
